“Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love each other, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us…God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.” 1 John 4: 11-12, 16b.
Many times we go through life thinking “God isn’t doing anything”, “why can’t I see God?”, or “I wish God would show himself to me.” Have you ever thought that? I know I have.
But I saw Jesus working this week.
He worked through a wonderful retired couple I happen to be blessed to know. They had spent time with ailing family many hours away, yet described the experience as good and a time to love their family members. He worked through a little girl, who befriended my older teen. She showed love and adoration toward my daughter, showered her with attention by wanting to talk to her, hug her, and sit beside her. In both situations I was moved by their acts of love and their abandon to share their feelings with those they cared about. And in both situations, I told Jesus “I see you now.”
God is love. And God works through people. As we love each other, God lives in us and teaches us how to love perfectly. Jesus was God’s ultimate love-gift to us, so that we can be in love with God forever. And Jesus teaches us how. His ministry on this earth was all about love, both for God and one another.
Let’s open our eyes. Let’s see the countless ways God is showering us with blessings in our lives. Let’s open our hearts to see the love placed in our path every day. And let’s be changed so that we can fully love others and be Jesus to someone else, so that they can say, “Jesus, I see you now.”
Prayer: “Gracious God, help me to see the countless ways you are Love. Open my eyes and heart to see the ways you shower love on me every day, times I often miss. And help me to be Jesus to someone else this week, so they can say they saw you. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”
