“I will bless them and the places surrounding my hill. I will send down showers in season; there will be showers of blessing.”– Ezekiel 34:26
“April Showers Bring May Flowers”.
It sure feels like that today. I have watched with interest how rain showers this past week have greened up the grass and brought out the daffodils, tulips, and hyacinths. As I was driving around today, I noticed periods where the rain was a complete downpour. My wipers zipped crazily, and just seconds later, I encountered a pocket of gentle rain. In a span of several minutes I adjusted my wipers often, because the force and amount of water on my windshield changed. One minute–raining cats and dogs, the next minute, gentle sprinkles. Now, as I listen to the rain hit my window, I think of God.
These rain “pockets” remind me of the blessings God pours out into our lives. I like the text in Ezekiel when the Lord was reminding His people that He would bless them and He would send down His showers, there would be showers of blessings. I think of my own life and can see times where God just dumped down the blessings into it. I can name the people and events. But what about the “drought times”? The times it seemed God had forgotten about me? Even then, as I reflect back, I can see how God still “sprinkled” me with blessings. They were still there. Even when I wasn’t always aware of it.
I think awareness plays a big role in our faith. Many times we get caught up in life, ourselves, our families, and our circumstances, and our awareness of what God is doing goes out the window. Especially during hard times. As I have prayed for more awareness, God has shown me time and time again how He brings blessings into my life. Sometimes I literally name my blessings one by one… that helps my awareness. In the past week I have been blessed with a good church message, good neighbors, friends, family, opportunities, ways to serve, and inspiration for my art. How about you? What would be on your list?
So where today is God showering blessings on you? Look for those places where you are being “sprinkled” with blessings and where God is pouring them out. Then thank Him, enjoy the blessings, and be a blessing to others!
Prayer–“God of all blessings, raise my awareness of where you bless me in my life. I thank you for the many ways you already bless me, help me to be a blessing to someone else this week who really needs to see you! In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”
