“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”–Psalm 23
Crossroads seem to be a part of our lives.
As our women’s Bible study wrapped up its year with a celebration and luncheon yesterday, I reflected on all that had happened for me with that group of caring and encouraging ladies. Last fall, I made a switch from another study to this new one. I had been at a crossroads: keep attending a group I had been a part of for a couple years, or try something new… I had many questions about my life and what I was to be doing with my time. I needed to discern about career, family, and God’s direction for me. What a blessing it was for me to join this new group! I met many new friends. I gained much wisdom from our studies and learned from the stories and lives of others. I participated in some new social events and led a seminar at their retreat. I delved into the Bible with them, and through videos and discussion learned a ton about God and about myself. What a blessing and I am so glad I made that change!
Crossroads have been a part of my life, how about yours? I can think back over the years of times I stood at a crossroads, peering into the great unknown, wondering what would happen if I chose one path versus another. Although being at a crossroads can cause a lot of discomfort at the time, I have found that if I muster up the courage to make that change, that they can also be life-giving and lead me and others into a deeper relationship with God. I haven’t regretted the paths I have chosen, though some were difficult. And I have always found blessings right around the corner.
I love Psalm 23. It was on my heart today, and I think reminds me of the many crossroads we face. The Lord is our shepherd. He guides us down the right path. He leads us to rest, to restoration, to life. We lack nothing, He gives us what we need. Even though we walk through very scary things at times, He is always with us. Goodness and love will always follow us…
What crossroads are you standing at today? Follow the Lord, consider what path He wants you to take. Boldly move forward down your path, confident your shepherd leads you and has your best interests in mind. And find out how goodness and love will follow you!
Prayer–“Lord, you are my shepherd. Thank you for leading me throughout my life. As I stand at crossroads considering different paths, help me discern the perfect path you have for me. Give me the courage to follow you. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”
