“This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.”—Psalm 118:24
This verse popped into my head today as I was driving to pick up my artwork at a zoo/flower conservatory. Actually, the song version was in my head–“This is the day, this is the day that the Lord has made… I will rejoice, I will rejoice, and be glad in it!”
My brain was stuffed with many things—-decisions about my art journey, thoughts about my kids and a new school year, lists of things to do…. but then this verse came to me. I looked around and saw the world. I saw big fluffy white clouds in a bright blue sky. I saw leaves turning colors. I saw beautiful garden flowers and gardeners tending them. I saw a woman with a brilliant yellow head scarf sprinting toward the light rail train, child in tow, with the scarf blowing behind her in the wind. I saw beautiful giant water lilies in the conservatory pond, surfaces as wide as wheels, with rusty pink rims and large pink flowers. I saw brilliant yellow-orange school buses roving the neighborhood streets. I saw three firemen putting out a car engine fire on my exit ramp, their heavy work coats and gloves moving confidently with each movement of the fire extinguisher. All around me was life. And life is good.
As I breathe in the crisp autumn air, I can say in my heart—“Rejoice, Heather. Life is Good. God has made today, and it is a gift. My heart—be glad. Sing, be happy.”
Fall is here. Change is in the air. Embrace the moment this week and rejoice in the days God has given you. Look around if you need reason to be glad. Enjoy your week!
Prayer–“Gracious God, I rejoice in the day you give me today. No matter what is on my plate for today, I pray to have a glad heart and joyful voice, because today is a new, good day that you have created. It is a gift to me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”
