“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.”–Psalm 118:1
A simple verse. A simple message. But it fits how I am feeling right now.
Earlier today, I had a busy day of errands and work planned. As I bustled about, my teenager said, “Mom–what’s that noise in the basement?” I listened down the doorway, thinking it was just the water softener or something turning on like it does. I almost dismissed it, but decided it was louder than normal and I went downstairs. The scene that greeted me was my water heater spewing water out the bottom and a small pond forming on my basement floor. I tumbled down the stairs and sprinted over to it, screeching to a halt around the ring of water, lest I get my feet wet. I realized there were too many pipes and gadgets, so I called for my son to bring me the phone and I dialed up my hubby at work. He told me how to shut off the water, and then came home, inspected everything, and called the plumber. Miracle upon miracle, they got us in their schedule and came out a few hours later to replace our water heater.
I am so thankful to God for A. That we were in the house when water was spewing everywhere, or the basement would have flooded. B. That my hubby knew what to do. C. That the plumber could get us in his schedule. D. We now have hot water again.
I know it sounds like a small thing, but I am convinced God works in the small things, even busted water heaters. I did not expect this turn of events today when I woke up, but it all worked out for the good. So I simply and honestly give thanks.
What small things can you give God thanks for today? I bet you can find something, and when you do, know that God is good, and lift your thanksgiving up to Him!
Prayer–“Lord God, thank you for working in the small things in my life. You know my needs and help me in so many ways, and I praise you for it! In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”
